IPL 2021, RR beat DC in low-scoring thriller: Records broken

Rajasthan Royals defeated Delhi Capitals in what turned out to be a low-scoring thriller at Wankhede. RR chased down 148 as Chris Morris finished the game in the final over. Middle-order batsman David Miller (62) set the foundation of their win. This marks the first victory for skipper Sanju Samson, who has been assigned the role this season. Here are the records broken.

Match

How did the match pan out?

Delhi Capitals had a terrible start after Sanju Samson elected to field. They were reduced to 37/4 before skipper Pant rescued them. A defiant half-century by him brought DC back, however, his run-out became another turning point. Eventually, the DC were restricted to 147/8 in 20. RR too struggled initially, but Miller kept them afloat. Finally, Morris won the game for them.

Miller

Miller played a breathtaking knock

Middle-order batsman Miller played an incredible knock in the run-chase. When the rest of RR batsmen failed to time the ball, he played strokes all around the ground. He slammed his 10th fifty, and finished with a 43-ball 62. Interestingly, Miller smashed the first six of the match in the 16th over. He followed it up with another one before getting dismissed.

Pant

Pant's fifty was the turning point

Pant remained the lone warrior for Delhi Capitals in the first innings. Leading from the front, he brought up his 13th half-century in the 12th over. He slammed a quick-fire 51 off 32 balls with the help of 9 fours. Although an unfortunate run-out by Riyan Parag ended his innings, his brief innings helped Delhi post a fighting total.

Both the teams struggled in the powerplay

Both the teams struggled to make use of the powerplay while batting. Delhi Capitals managed to put up only 36/3 in the first six, having lost the top three (Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan and Ajinkya Rahane). Unadkat rattled the Capitals with his deceptive variations. On the other hand, Rajasthan Royals could register 26/3 in the first six.

Unadkat, Avesh

Unadkat, Avesh bag three wickets each

Left-arm pacer Jaydev Unadkat, who was left out for Rajasthan's opening encounter, emerged as the standout bowler in the match. His notable variations gave a run for the money to the batsmen. Unadkat picked up three wickets for 15 runs, and registered an impressive economy rate of 3.80. Meanwhile, Avesh Khan picked three wickets for Delhi Capitals.
