Madan Lal is a former Indian cricket player and former coach of the Indian national cricket team. He also played a crucial role in India‘s victory in the Cricket World Cup held in 1983. In 1975, he bowled the first ball of the World Cup. Lal was born on March 20, 1951, in Punjab. The all-rounder played 39 Test matches and 67 ODIs in his career span. He has also served as one of the members of BCCI’s selection committee from 2000-2001. In 1974, Lal made his Test debut in Manchester against England where he took two wickets in the match and scored nine runs. In June 1986, Lal played his last Test match against Pakistan. In March 1987, he played his last ODI against England. Post-retirement, Lal continued his active involvement in cricket. He served as the coach of the UAE team during the 1996 Cricket World Cup. Lal also served as a coach of the Indian team between September 1996 and 1997. He established the Madan Lal Cricket Academy in Delhi and was appointed as a chief coach of Sanjay Jagdale MPCA Academy in 2010.
