Mohammad Amir: News

From being the hottest fast bowler in world cricket to being banned by ICC for spot-fixing, there are very few figures who divide opinion amongst cricket fans like Mohammad Amir. Amir idolized Wasim Akram as a young fast bowler. As chance would have it, it was Akram himself who spotted the talented youngster from Punjab. Amir first came into the limelight after his performances for the Pakistan U-19 team. He made his international debut in the 2009 T20 World Cup. His pace and swing played a major role in Pakistan’s victory in the tournament. He made his Test debut in the same year against Sri Lanka. Amir’s international career came to standstill after Pakistan’s tour of England in 2010. A no-ball he bowled in one of the Tests was found to be pre-planned and deliberate. ICC handed him a five-year ban from cricket in 2011 after the incident. He made his international return in 2016 after being cleared to play in 2015. Amir, however, failed to reach the heights he reached as a youngster after his return.
