  • Muhammad Ali was born Cassius Clay, a name he renounced as his 'slave name' after converting to Islam. He waited till he won over Sonny Liston and did 2 things: took the name of Muhammad Ali and proclaimed: "I am the greatest! I am the greatest! I'm the king of the world."

He was stripped of his boxing title and sentenced to 5 years' imprisonment.
