Born on June 28, 1970, Mushtaq Ahmed is a Pakistani cricket coach and former right-arm off-spin bowler who played for the Pakistan cricket team. Known for his leg break googly bowling, Ahmed is often described to be one of the best three wrist-spinners in the world. He was part of Pakistan’s squad during the 1992 Cricket World Cup during which the team won the tournament. Ahmed made his One Day International (ODI) in 1989. Between 1989 and 2003, Ahmed played 144 ODI matches and took 161 wickets. He made his international Test debut in 1990 against Australia. Between 1990 and 2003, he played 52 Test matches and took 185 wickets. In the late 1990’s he was accused of match-fixing, and following an inquiry, he was banned from captaining the Pakistan cricket team. In 2008, he was appointed as the spin-bowling coach for the England cricket team. In 2012, he was appointed as the bowling coach for the Surrey Cricket Country Club. In 2014, he was appointed as the bowling consultant for the Pakistan Cricket team. In 2016, he was named as the head coach of Pakistan’s National Cricket Academy. In 2018, he was appointed as the assistant coach and spin consultant of the West Indies cricket team. In June 2020, he was appointed as the spin-bowling coach of the Pakistan cricket team.
