De Kock's comeback rivals Rohit and Kohli's impact: Ashwell Prince
What's the story
South Africa batting coach Ashwell Prince has hailed the return of wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock to the ODI format. He compared de Kock's impact on the team to that of Indian superstars Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. De Kock had initially retired after the 2023 World Cup but made himself available for South Africa earlier this year. Recently, he had a stellar run in Pakistan, scoring 239 runs in three matches at an average of 119.5. Here's more.
Impact
De Kock's return is 'massive' for South Africa
"I think he's big, he's massive," South Africa batting coach Prince told reporters in Ranchi on Saturday. "With Rohit [Sharma] and Virat [Kohli] coming to the Indian team, I think Quinny probably has a similar effect coming into our team with his experience, with his quality that we saw in Pakistan," the former South African batter added.
Team spirit
De Kock's presence boosts team morale
Prince also emphasized de Kock's presence in the dressing room, saying it has a positive effect on the team's morale. He said, "His presence definitely boosted the dressing room." The coach also noted that there are a number of young left-handers and players in the team who can learn a lot from de Kock through conversations and by playing alongside him on the field.
Player spotlight
Marco Jansen's role in South Africa's Test series win
Prince also spoke about all-rounder Marco Jansen, who played a key role in South Africa's 2-0 Test series win over India. Jansen scored an impressive 93 off 91 balls and took six wickets for 48 runs. Prince said, "What's important for Marco is clarity about how he bats." He emphasized that when batting at No. 8 or No.9, one doesn't have many partners and hence has to score quickly once settled at the crease.
