Twitter has been overloaded with wishes to Sachin Tendulkar on his 44th birthday.
Everyone from PM Narendra Modi and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee to fellow cricketers Virender Sehwag and Virat Kohli took to Twitter to wish him.
Reports say Sachin would spend his evening at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai watching the Mumbai Indians face off against Rising Pune Supergiant in today's IPL fixture.

On 15 November 1989, Sachin Tendulkar became the youngest player to debut for India in tests when he played his first match against India's arch rivals Pakistan at Karachi. He was 16 years 205 days old.
He earned praises for handling Pakistan's pace attack.
Tendulkar was also the youngest player to make his ODI debut when he played against Pakistan in December 1989.

Sachin scored his first test century against England in August 1990. But he had to wait for almost five years for his first ODI century. He hit his maiden ODI century at Colombo against Australia, on 9 September 1994.

Sachin Tendulkar hit his first century against England to become the second youngest cricketer to do so.
His unbeaten knock of 119 runs in the first innings at Old Trafford received praises from various senior cricketers.
England captain Graham Gooch praised Sachin's efforts and said, "Tendulkar played an excellent innings. He is a superb player for his age, just like an old pro."

On 27 March 1994, for the first time in his career, Sachin Tendulkar was asked to open batting for India in ODIs against New Zealand in Auckland.
Sachin went on to smash 82 runs off just 49 deliveries and helped India win the match and level the series.
His innings included 15 fours and two sixes.

Sachin could not do well with bat in an ODI match against Australia in Kochi in 1998.
Captain Mohammad Azharuddin handed the bowl to Sachin who picked formidable Australian wickets to help India win.
He took five wickets giving away just 32 runs in his 10 overs. Those were his best bowling figures in his 24 year long cricketing career.

The little master became the first batsman to score a double century in the ODIs after he hit unbeaten 200 runs against South Africa in Gwalior.
He hit 25 fours and three sixes in just 147 balls to achieve the feat.
The 36-year old made another record to his name by scoring ODI's highest individual score.

In 1994, Sachin was honoured with Arjuna Award by the Government of India for his achievement in sports.
He then went on to receive Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award in 1997-98, Padma Shri in 1999, Padma Vibhushan in 2008 and India's highest civilian award Bharat Ratna in the year 2014.
Apart from that, he was also named Wisden cricketer of the year 1997.
