    Sindhu clinches her 3rd Macau Open Grand Prix Gold

  • PV Sindhu- the two-time defending champion finished with a hat-trick of titles at the Macau Open defeating sixth-seeded Minatsu Mitani.

    She acheived her third Macau Open Grand Prix Gold with a score of 21-9 21-23 21-14 in the finals.

    Sindhu had moved to the finals after recording a three-game triumph in the semifinals over second-seed Akane Yamaguchi of Japan.

  • Pursala Venkata Sindhu is an Indian badminton player, born on 5 July 1995.

    She started playing badminton from the age of eight, training at Pullela Gopichand's Badminton Academy of Hyderabad.

    She is supported by the Olympic Gold Quest, a non-profit-organization that supports Indian athletes.

    She started her international career in 2009 with the Sub-Junior Asian Badminton-Championships at Colombo, where she won a bronze medal.

  • PV Sindhu's parents PV Ramanna and P Vijaya were both volleyball players. Her father Ramanna was awarded the Arjuna Award 2000 for volleyball by the Government of India.

  • PV Sindhu had acquired the 20th position in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) ranking announced on 20 September 2012.

    The ranking was owed to her extraordinary performance at China's master tournament, a week before the rankings were disclosed.

    She had jumped 4 places from her previous world ranking of 24th.

    India's top shuttler, Saina Nehwal was positioned 4th in the list.

  • Sindhu won bronze medal at the BWF World Championship after being defeated by Ratchanok Intanon from Thailand at the semi-finals held at China.

    She became the first ever Indian woman to win a medal in singles at the WC.

    The last and the only other medal for India at the BWF World Championships in an individual event was won by Prakash Padukone in 1983.

    She settled for bronze as she lost the semi-finals against Carolina Marlin of Spain.

    She became the first Indian women to win two consecutive bronze medals at the BWF World Championship.

  • Sindhu was awarded the 'Breakthrough Sportsperson of the Year' at the India Sports Awards in February 2014 presented by FICCI.

    She was awarded the title of the 'Sportperson of the year' at the NDTV Indian of the year awards held in April 2014.

    On 30 March 2015, Sindhu was awarded the fourth highest civilian honour, Padma Shri by the Government of India.

  • 11th seeded, PV Sindhu defeated Olympic Champion and former World No.1, Xuerui Li of China in the pre-quarterfinal game of the World Championship at Jakarta.

    Sindhu clearly outshined Xuerui in the resounding 21-17,14-21,21-17 victory.

    With the clear dominance of Sindhu in the high-risk game, hopes of her adding another medal to India's name escalated higher.

    Xuerui made an exit from the World Championship.

  • PV Sindhu lost the quarter-final women's singles match of the World Badminton championship against Sung-Ji-Hyun of South Korea at Jakarta, Indonesia.

    Apart from ensuring her exit from the championship, she also failed to complete a hat-trick of bronze medals at the World championship, after winning bronze consecutively in 2013 and 2014.

    Sindhu lost 17-21 21-19 16-21 in a match that lasted for 1hour 22minutes.
