Trump team hints at Muslim immigrant registry
Kansas secretary of state Kris Kobach, an adviser to the Trump transition team said they are planning to reintroduce a registry for immigrants from Muslim-majority countries. Though the team has not confirmed the plans, several other Trump campaign workers supported the idea, likening it to the system for Japanese-Americans after World War 2. Trump vowed to tighten the vetting process for immigrants from Muslim-countries.
First 100 Days of Donald Trump
Towards the end of October 2016, Donald Trump in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania released a plan for the first 100 days of his term. Repealing Obamacare, constructing the Mexican wall (with Mexico's money), promoting school choices etc. were a part of this contract. He named his plan "Donald Trump's Contract With The American Voter" and claimed that restoring honesty, accountability and change were its origin points.
Constitutional Amendments with regards to Congress
Donald Trump wants to propose a Constitutional Amendment that will impose term limits on all members of the Congress. However, Senate Majority Leader disagreed to this and said, "I would say we have term limits already- they're called elections." The President has no constitutional role in amendment procedures and thus this is not likely to go through without the support of Senate leadership.
Of old and new federal regulations
A decline in the number of federal regulations is what Republicans firmly believe in. According to the Competitive Enterprise Institute, in 2016 there are already 79,380 pages in the Federal Register. Donald Trump says that over-regulation costs the American economy $2 trillion annually. Thus Trump wants to introduce a requirement whereby 2 existing regulations will be scrapped for every new federal regulation.
Crackdown on lobbying
Donald Trump wants to place a 5-year ban which would restrict White House officials from becoming lobbyists. He also wants lawmakers from the Congress and their staffs to face the same ban. Banning foreign lobbyists from raising money for Presidential Elections has also been proposed.
The Keystone Pipeline
Construction of the northern stretch of the Keystone XL Pipeline was halted by the Obama administration by rejecting the State Department permit to TransCanada Corp. Construction of this pipeline is said to encourage the development of carbon-intensive oil from Canadian tar sands. Donald Trump wants to further the project and may give it the thumbs up by granting TransCanada the permit.
Sanctuary Cities
Trump wants to withdraw all federal funding to 'Sanctuary Cities'- cities that have policies protecting immigrants of the country from federal immigration laws (being turned over to federal agents by the police). Examples of these cities are Seattle, Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago, Texas, Austin etc.
Middle Class Tax Relief and Simplification Act
This proposal of Donald Trump's is an economic plan which aims at a 4% annual growth of the American economy. It also includes the creation of 25 million new jobs as one of its goals achievable through tax reduction and simplification. A middle-class family with 2 children will receive a 35% tax cut and businesses will receive a 20% tax cut.
Obamacare
Trump wants to repeal and replace the Obamacare Act which means fully repeal Obamacare, replacing it with Health Savings Accounts and allowing the buying/selling of health insurance across state borders.
On building the Mexican wall
Donald Trump proposed funding the construction of the wall on USA's southern border, promising that Mexico will be reimbursing for the same. However, Mexico's President made it clear to Trump during their meet that the Mexican government has no intentions whatsoever of financing the border. To this, Trump later suggested that money sent by Mexican citizens back home can be taxed for this purpose.
Donald Trump's pledge
Trump said, "On November 8th, Americans will be voting for this plan to restore prosperity to our economy, security to our communities and honesty to our government. If we follow these steps, we will once more have a government of, by and for the people."
Trump holds steady on deporting 'illegal immigrants'
Donald Trump is holding steady on his commitment to crackdown on illegal immigrants in the US. He stated that undocumented immigrants particularly those with criminal records would either be incarcerated or deported; he estimated there were 2-3 million such immigrants. However senior Republican leader, Paul Ryan, diverged and said there would be no "deportation force" formed as the focus was on securing the border.
Donald Trump to take $1 as President's salary
In another news, US President-elect Trump reiterated his campaign promise to not accept the President's salary if voted into the White House. He confirmed that he won't accept the $400,000 salary paid to US Presidents but would take $1 per year as the law required him to. Trump said that he'll refrain from going on vacations because, "There's so much work to be done".
Trump will get a reality-check once in office: Obama
President Barack Obama stated that President-elect Donald Trump will get a harsh reality check when he assumes office in January, and that he should work toward improving his temperament. Advising Trump on the nuances of being president, Obama said Trump could not afford to be as outspoken as he was on his campaign. Obama said, "the office has a way of waking you up."
NY may erase municipal card data over deportation fears
New York may end up having to erase all the data on its Municipal ID card program, which was developed to allow illegal immigrants to regularize into society. However, Mayor Bill de Blasio has vowed to "absolutely" safeguard the identity details of all citizens registered in the system. His proposal to delete the data drew severe criticism from all quarters.
