B/W wedding photos of the couple emerged on social media
According to a report in The Sun, it was their official wedding photographer who got hacked. Alexi Lubomirski (43) clicked hundreds of photos of the couple. "Preview" black-and-white photos of the couple recently started emerging on Instagram and Twitter.
The Sun describes one of the photos where Harry hugs Meghan with his eyes closed as she beams for the camera.
'There was an internal investigation but the police weren't involved'
The publication reported that a source close to the Royal Family confirmed that "security was compromised."
Reportedly, a security probe was initiated immediately to deal with the leak.
"There was an online compromise," the source said, "Pictures were hacked then leaked. There was an internal investigation but the police weren't involved."
The source added, "The situation has now been contained."
Photos hacked last September; leak timed with Royal event
Although the source of this leak remains unknown, official sources told The Sun that they have taken steps to ensure that future leaks do not occur. They added that the hackers struck last September, but only leaked the images now, ahead of Markle's first public appearance following the birth of her son, Archie.
Markle appeared at the Trooping the Colour ceremony on Saturday.
Officially, only 3 wedding photos were released
Officially, only three photos from the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were released by the Royal Family.
Lubomirski, who took the couple's engagement photos at the wedding at Windsor Castle, also photographed their engagement at Frogmore House in December 2017.
The Sun reports that both a Buckingham Palace spokesperson and Lubomirski's agent declined to comment.
