Senators urge Trump to not use Indian-steel for Keystone pipeline
  • A group of Senators have urged US President Donald trump to prevent TransCanada from using Indian or Italian steel for the controversial Keystone XL pipeline.

In a letter to Trump, they said India and Italy had "a history of dumping steel products in the US market at unfair, illegal prices."

They said by not doing so Trump's decision would effectively cost US jobs.

    Controversy surrounding Dakota Pipeline
  • The new Dakota Access oil pipeline is a $3.7 billion project which is capable of transporting up to 570,000 barrels of crude oil a day.

However, the Sioux Indians claim that the pipeline will desecrate their sacred ancestral burial ground, traverse over archaeological sites and contaminate their water source.

Environmental activists are also opposed to it as it will increase fossil fuel emissions.

The orders were sharply criticized by climate change activists and Native Americans.

Both projects had been blocked by Trump's predecessor Barack Obama.

The White House said Trump's orders would create "tens of thousands of new jobs" and that both projects would be renegotiated.

The Standing Rock Sioux and Cheyenne River Sioux tribes argued that the project would contaminate their drinking water and asked for a temporary injunction against construction.

They will now file a lawsuit.

The court said there was time to hear the lawsuit before the pipeline begins operations.
