If you have booked window tickets, then waitlisted passengers can also board the train. If you have booked an online ticket, then only those whose seat is confirmed can board the train.

Yes, it is possible to travel with a waitlisted ticket. If you have booked a window ticket, you can board the train. On the other hand, if you have booked an online ticket and your ticket status is partly confirmed/ partly waitlist or partly RAC/ partly waitlist- your name will show up in 'charts including waitlisted passengers' and you can board the train.

After deducting some minor charges, IRCTC will refund the amount you paid for your ticket in your account. The charges depend on the class of ticket and the train.

If the position of your waiting list remains the same until the journey date, and you have booked a window ticket, then you can board the train. If you have booked an online ticket, then your ticket will be canceled by IRCTC and refund will be transferred to your account.
