The ID Proof required to change the passenger name in IRCTC tickets should be originals. The name change facility can be availed at reservation offices by making a request in writing at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled departure of the train.

Can we change the name of the passenger in the wait-listed ticket or should we wait till confirmation of the ticket?

As per the IRCTC rules, Yes, you can change the name of the passenger even in the waitlisted ticket. You don't have to wait for the confirmation of the ticket.

How many passengers names can be changed against one reservation form?

It is not strictly defined under IRCTC rules the minimum or the maximum number of passengers whose names can be changed against one reservation form. However, it is defined clearly that such request will be granted only once.

The documents required to change the passenger name in the booked IRCTC tickets are: (1)the original copy of the ticket, (2)application mentioning the PNR no. and name, age, and gender or original passenger and the new passenger, (3)ID proof of both the original passenger and new passenger, (4)Proof of relationship i.e. father, mother, brother/sister or any other family member.
