All about Porsche's first-ever all-electric sports car
Porsche has finally introduced the production version of its first-ever fully electric car, the Taycan.
Originally introduced as Mission E around four years back, the EV comes in two variants: the Taycan Turbo and the Taycan Turbo S, which are priced at $1,50,900 and $1,85,000, respectively.
And like a true sports car, the Porsche Taycan can do 0-100km in just 2.6 seconds.
Porsche Taycan: At a glance
The Taycan retains the iconic Porsche design sporting a sharp-looking aerodynamic hood and bubble-shaped cabin with a panoramic glass roof that tapers to a three-stage rear spoiler system.
The front is characterized by lateral air intakes and matrix-beaming four-point LED headlights while the rear has a minimalistic glass light strip as well as 'Porsche' logo in a similar glass-like design.
Inside the cabin
In the cabin, the four-seater Taycan comes as a meticulously designed package of luxury, comfort, and technology.
The 14-way or 18-way (optional) adjustable seats are paired with a multifunctional sports steering wheel and advanced climate control.
The cockpit is also equipped with up to four displays including a 16.8-inch curved screen instrument cluster, a 10.9-inch central display, and an 8.4-inch center console control panel.
Under the hood
The Taycan Turbo S draws power from two motors to offer 750hp and 1050Nm of peak torque. This powertrain is paired to a 93.4kWh battery pack which allows the EV to accelerate from a standstill to 100kmph in just 2.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 260kmph.
As for range, the Turbo S can cover nearly 412km in one go.
Pricing and availability
The Taycan Turbo starts at $153,510 while the Turbo S is priced at $187,610. However, after the launch, the prices may drop down to $150,900 and $185,000, respectively.
You can order these models right away, but the deliveries are scheduled to begin in January 2020.
And in the evolving space of EVs, Porsche's offering will take on Tesla's Model S.
The Porsche Taycan can charge upto 80% in 22 minutes
Porsche claims that Taycan's massive battery packs can be juiced up pretty quickly. Both models are touted to get charged from 5% to 80% in 22.5 minutes via a 270kW charger. And with a 5-minute top-up, you can get a range of around 96km.
