Online ads demanding advance payments scam people for money

Several Bengalureans have reportedly been scammed by con men posting ads of cars, bikes, and mobiles on online classifieds services like Quikr and OLX.

The city's cybercrime department received 11 complaints where people were cheated of their money by advertisers claiming to sell expensive products at dirt cheap prices.

Victims claim to have lost money ranging from Rs. 5,000-1.5L, totaling to Rs. 10L.

What does Quikr have to say?

"We have stressed the need to be smart while using services on our platform. One of the reasons behind the institution of the Quikr Doorstep service is to prevent our customers from falling prey to such frauds," said a Quikr spokesperson.
