Bengaluru Traffic Police goes online: Will accept vehicle-documents on app

Traffic police to accept vehicle documents on app

Motorists in Bengaluru need not worry about carrying original vehicle documents any longer, as the traffic police and other transport agencies will soon be accepting scanned copy of the documents stored on the smartphone's DigiLocker app.

On Tuesday, Transport commissioner B Dayananda issued a notice saying, "Driving licence, registration certificate and emission certificate stored on DigiLocker will be treated as original papers."

The transport department in the notice asked traffic police and other authorities "to treat DigiLocker documents on par with certificates issued by the RTOs in the form of a smart card or paper."

However, the notification doesn't apply in violation cases where the documents are required to be seized by the authorities.

The e-governance department of the state has reportedly linked the DigiLocker app with the transport department and that allows vehicle owners to upload scanned copies of their documents to their respective accounts.

The app launched by the central government is a platform for issuance and verification of digital documents and certificates of a citizen, which is linked to their Aadhaar number.
