Sasikala paid Rs. 2 crore for VIP treatment in jail

Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah ordered high level probe into allegations of AIADMK general secretary VK Sasikala, who is currently in Parappana Agrahara central jail, paying a bribe of Rs. 2 crore to prison's department officials.

This probe is based on Deputy Inspector General of Police (Prisons) D Roopa's report, stating that a special kitchen was given to Sasikala.

Youth protests at government hospital for condom dispenser

A government hospital at Tumkur in Karnataka saw a unique protest. Ganesh, a Chikkamagalur native, sat on a protest at the hospital when he discovered they weren't providing free condoms.

He had gone to meet his wife in Tiptur, but decided to make a detour to the hospital to get some condoms.

However, authorities indifferently told him miscreants had stolen the hospital's condom dispenser.

Activists demand use of Kannada in bank forms

Pro-Kannada activists have been pressing for Kannada instructions in bank forms used for a variety of transactions.

As part of their campaign, they have been lashing out at national banks on Twitter for promoting Hindi language and ignoring Kannada.

According to activists, Kannada speaking customers are at a loss since they cannot understand basic banking instructions.

Bengaluru Indira Canteen may miss August 15 deadline

Karnataka government's plan of inaugurating Indira canteens by August 15 may miss its deadline.

According to BBMP official, construction of canteen has begun only in 38 wards out of 198 wards, and only 75 wards are approved for construction.

"Work is almost done in 38 wards. We are bringing in five precast canteen units into Bengaluru every day in a bid to meet the deadline," he added.


Old man thrashed by sons over property dispute

Two sons thrashed their 75-year-old father in Karnataka's Bagalkot District over an alleged property feud. They sat on him and tied him up while everyone else kept looking.

The father's feet and left arm were injured. He is undergoing treatment at the district hospital.

Police have arrested both the sons and they are getting interrogated.
