FIFA World Cup to boost premium TV-sales: Samsung

Samsung India expects the sales of premium televisions increase by 10-15% during the FIFA World Cup, which kicks off today.

Reportedly, the total TV market is estimated to be Rs. 500 billion, growing at 7-8%.

Samsung has a 30% market share currently, and it expects to take it to 33% by October, said Piyush Kunnapallil, General Manager, Consumer electronic business, Samsung India.

Kunnapallil said Indian consumers are moving towards premium TV, with those priced between Rs. 1L and Rs. 1.5L booming at present.

The 40-inch and above segment, which accounts for 45-50% of the total TV market, is growing at 26%, and the ultrahigh-definition (UHD) TVs segment at 145%, while the Rs 1.5L and above TV market is growing at 75%, said Kunnapallil.

Samsung launched 6 new UHD models

"In 40-inch and above segment, our market share is 33% and expected to increase to 38%. In UHD, we have 36% share, and we plan to increase it to 45% by October," Kunnapallil said.

Samsung launched six new UHD models yesterday, taking the total UHD offering to 16.

Kunnapallil said that the company won't increase its prices to ensure consumer's sentiment isn't impacted.
