Jio is launching its 4G VoLTE mobile in August. It has signed multiple vendors for the supply of over 20 million handsets.
One among those is Intex, which is looking to regain lost ground. Owing to Chinese rivals, it has lost market share in recent quarters.
It has also planned the launch of 19 4G smartphones under Rs. 7,999 in the near future.
Can Intex regain ground with Jio 4G phone?
Jio's new 4G VoLTE phone costs just Rs. 500
Jio's 4G VoLTE mobile priced Rs. 500 will come in two variants: with a Qualcomm processor, and with a Spreadtrum chip.
It will have a 2.4-inch display, 512MB RAM, 4GB storage, 2MP rear camera, VGA front camera, GPS, and NFC.
It will go on sale on Amazon, Flipkart, Snapdeal, and on its official website. Shipments are expected to start soon after it launches.
Intex's plans to recapture market share
Jio has signed up many Chinese original device manufacturers. In India, Intex is the official maker. It won't be involved in pricing or marketing, but is in talks with Jio for bundling, said Nidhi Markanday, director and business head, Intex Technologies.
There's no word on the number of phones it will supply.
Intex is also launching nine feature phones under its new range 'Navratna'.

Jio likely to shake the market once again
The new phone is likely to disrupt the market again in signature Jio style. Earlier, it shook the Indian telecom market by offering free voice and data services to customers; afterwards, it priced its plans very cheap.
Presently, Micromax and Lava produce VoLTE feature phones, but are priced higher at Rs. 3,000. Moreover, the Jio phone comes with 4G VoLTE ability.
