It is conducted for admission to postgraduate courses, but GATE scores are also used for PSU recruitment. Qualifying GATE opens multiple career paths, but cracking the exam is not easy without right preparation.
Some of the best books include Strength of Materials by SS Rattan, Theory of Machines by RS Khurmi, and Arihant's GATE-2020 Tutor Mechanical Engineering by Er. Dinesh Nath Goswami.
Other popular books include Frank M White's Fluid Mechanics, RK Bansal's Fluid Mechanics, Yunis Cengel's Heat Transfer, Swadesh Singh's Production Engineering, and PK Nag's Thermodynamics
Electrical Engineering (EE) is another popular GATE stream. Top recommended books include Fundamentals of Electric Circuits by Charles K Alexander & Matthew NO Sadiku, Electric Machines by DP Kothari & IJ Nagrath, and Power Electronics by PS Bhimbhra.
Power System Engineering by DP Kothari & IJ Nagrath, Circuit Theory by Abhijit Chakrabarti, and Control Systems by IJ Nagrath & Madan Gopal are popular too.
Books for GATE Civil Engineering (CE) preparation include Design of Steel Structures by SS Bhavikatti, Highway Engineering by Khanna & Justo, Soil Mechanics and Foundation by BC Punmia, Ashok Kumar Jain, and Arun Kumar Jain.
SK Garg's Environmental Engineering Sewage-Disposal and Air Pollution Engineering, K Subramanya's Flow in Open Channel, and Reinforced Concrete Design by SU Pillai & Devdas Menon are popular too.
For GATE Electronics & Communications Engineering (EC) paper, aspirants can refer to popular recommended books like BP Lathi's Modern Digital and Analog Communications Systems, Semiconductor Physics and Devices by Donald Neamen, and Automatic Control Systems by BC Kuo.
Others include Signals and Systems by Alan V Oppenheim, Alan S Willsky, and S Hamid Nawab, Van Valken Burg's Network Analysis, and Microprocessors by B Ram.
Books for Computer Science & IT (CS) preparation include Computer Organization by Hamacher, Vranesic, and Zaky; Operating System Principles by Silberschatz, Galvin, and Gagne; and Digital Logic and Computer Design by Morris Mano.
