Low visibility conditions disrupt flight operations at Delhi airport

Low visibility conditions disrupted flight operations at the Delhi airport today, and departures were put on hold for two hours, an official said.

The departure of flights resumed at 9:16 am.

Three international and one domestic flight have been diverted so far, however arrivals have not been stopped, the official added.

The minimum visibility required for takeoff is 125 meters.

According to the official, since the Low Visibility Take Off (LVTO) requirement is not being fulfilled, the departure of flights were on hold for two hours from around 7:15 am, and it resumed at 9:16 am.

The Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) is the busiest in the country, and sees over 70 flight movements per hour roughly.

This includes both arrivals and departures.
