#RoadSafetyWeek2019: Delhi traffic cop shows mirror to helmet-less drivers

National Road Safety Week was observed countrywide last week from February 4-10.

But, Delhi Traffic Police's efforts stood out and were applauded.

A Delhi cop was seen promoting the message of road safety by showing a mirror to helmet-less drivers recently.

A video showing Head Constable, Sandeep Kumar, wearing a helmet and performing the hard-hitting act has now gone viral.

Recently, the Delhi Traffic Police came up with the ingenious and interesting idea to spread awareness on road safety.

The video showed Constable Kumar holding a mirror in front of a helmet-less pillion rider on a busy road near the ITO Crossing.

Right after the mirror, he pulled up placards with thought-provoking messages.

Later, another cop is seen handing them a flyer.


First message: 'Kyuki Aaina Jhooth Nahi Bolta'

The first placard read, "Kyuki Aaina Jhooth Nahi Bolta (The mirror doesn't lie)."

This was followed by, "Meri Helmet Meri Suraksha. Aur Aapki? (My helmet is my safety. And yours?)."

Next came, "Sada ISI Mark Waala Helmet Hi Prayog Kare. (Always use ISI marked helmet)."

And the last card read, "Aapki Surakhshit Yatra ki Shubkamna (We wish you a safe journey)."

Netizens praise Delhi Traffic police, call constable 'the Helmet Man'

The Delhi Traffic Police tweeted the video and left netizens highly impressed.

Many retweeted the traffic police's video lauding their remarkable efforts.

Compliments such as "Great job" or "Well done Delhi police" kept pouring in.

One netizen wrote, "Great way to educate people about their safety. 'Salute' to Delhi Traffic Police."

Netizens have now dubbed the constable as 'The Helmet Man'.

Meanwhile, during the National Road Safety Week, cricketers like Ishant Sharma and Virender Sehwag joined hands with the police and urged Delhiites to follow traffic rules.

Apart from that, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Alok Kumar and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Eish Singhal conducted an interactive session with students at Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma (ARSD) College over road safety in the city.

Traffic police personnel also briefed rickshaw drivers about road safety

Apart from roads, the city's traffic police personnel also targeted schools like Senior Secondary Girls and Boys School (Shalimar Bagh), Shanti Devi Public School, GR International School and Updesh Kaur Public School (Bawana), to spread the message of road safety.

The personnel also briefed the drivers of various other vehicles and commuters of e-rickshaws, Gramin Sewa, RTVs and others about the same.


Special CP says there's a need of self-discipline among masses

During a seminar, Special Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Taj Hassan, asserted that there is a great need of self-discipline among the masses besides using technology and awareness programs to get the desired results.

He added that there also needs to be coordination among stakeholders to improve the overall road safety.

He asked industries to join hands in ensuring road safety in every possible way.
