According to some Congress MLAs, PeeCee's 'inappropriate' outfit in the image is degrading the state's culture.
The actress, who is the brand ambassador of Assam, was last year targeted for labeling Sikkim as 'insurgency-hit'.
Priyanka's picture has offended Congress members Rupjyoti Kurmi (MLA from Mariani), Roseline Tirkey (MLA from Sarupathar), and Nandita Das (MLA from Boko) and they want her sacked as the brand ambassador of Assam.
In their view, the actress has failed to put up with the culture of Assam.
"The government should preserve the respect of the Assamese society. Frock is not an Assamese attire and the calendar pictures were not sober at all. They could have used the traditional mekhela chador. This is the reason we have protested against the calendar," Kurmi said.
Chairman of the Assam Tourism Development Corporation, Jayanta Malla Baruah, has termed the objections over Priyanka's picture as baseless.
"Priyanka Chopra is an international figure and her presentation in the calendar has not diminished Assam's culture in any way," he said.
Taking a dig at the Congress MLAs, Baruah quipped if they would like to see Priyanka Gandhi on the calendar.
The 'Baywatch' actress is currently filming the third season of 'Quantico' which will be going on-air from 28 April. She also has two Hollywood films in her kitty called 'A Kid Like Jake' and 'Isn't It Romantic?'
Amidst all this, reports of PeeCee making a comeback in Bollywood with the sequel to her 2004 superhit 'Aitraaz' have also emerged.
