Varun Dhawan's 'October' was plagiarized from my film: Marathi director
Varun Dhawan-starrer romantic drama 'October' has entered into trouble after Marathi Director Sarika Mene claimed the storyline and character of the movie was plagiarized from her 2017 Marathi film 'Aarti-The Unknown Love Story.'
The film, which was released on April 13, is directed by National Award-winning director Shoojit Sircar.
It has garnered positive reviews from the masses for its heartwarming charm.
Is film copied?
Had an inkling when I watched the trailer: Sarika
"When the trailer was out, I did get a gut feeling that it would be same," Sarika said.
"When the film released and I saw it, it was 90% same. He (Shoojit) is such a respected person... I have seen his films like 'Piku', 'Vicky Donor'. I was like he has a (story) sense, I am shocked he did this," she added.
'Film-associations have agreed to watch my movie along with October'
Sarika added a criminal complaint has been filed against Shoojit and 'October' writer Juhi Chaturvedi.
Now she has been asked to show her film to associations.
"I was pleading with them to see my film first and then watch 'October' and they finally want to see it now. I want justice on basis of merit," she said.
Will issue an official statement soon: Shoojit Sircar
"The complaint was filed a week back and so far we haven't got any response. I kept quiet because I wanted to know things from him," Sarika said.
Reacting to the claims, Shoojit said, "We have received a letter. And we will surely respond to the letter officially... We will let you know our official statement."
'I am nothing in front of them': Sarika praises 'October'
Sarika said that 'October' is a brilliant piece of work. "I am nothing in front of them, I am just a starter. I did this film for my brother, my intention was to talk about causes through cinema."
