Writer of racist, sexist article apologizes to Priyanka Chopra

Mariah Smith, whose deeply problematic piece for The Cut got fury from all quarters, has apologized to Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas.

On Twitter, Smith wrote she was sorry as her words offended readers and the newly-weds. She added she doesn't support racism, xenophobia, or sexism.

"I take full responsibility of what I wrote, and I was wrong," her apology read.

Here is the apology

Just in case you are unaware, here's what happened

Soon after Nick and Priyanka tied the knot and exchanged vows in a lavish ceremony at Jodhpur's Umaid Bhawan, The Cut published an article with the headline 'Is Priyanka Chopra-Nick Jonas' love for real?'

The article took clickbait journalism to a new low, portraying Priyanka as a delicious villain and Nick as a mere victim of a 'global scam artist'.

The outrage was obvious.

The writer had no idea about PeeCee's stardom or Indian-traditions

The story reeked of sexism, ageism, and racism. Priyanka's way of life was dissected, and Smith made it a point to note she spends a lot of money.

Nick's love for older women was also covered and the 'poor' chap was advised to gallop away on a horse.

The writer also didn't have any idea about Indian weddings and ended up criticizing it too.

She apologized and deleted the tweets

Not only has Smith apologized but she has also deleted the tweets related to the article.

After it was published, Smith re-tweeted the praises she got for the article and went on to say Priyanka and Calvin Harris had the same fan base.

But after the flak, even Nick's brother Joe Jonas and his fiancee Sophie Turner slammed the piece, the tweets were deleted.

While everyone was visibly furious, Priyanka just straightened her crown

When Priyanka Chopra was asked to comment on the piece, all she said was, "It's not even in my stratosphere. I'm in a happy place. This kind of random things can't disturb it."

Soon after the wedding, she jetted into work, launched the Bumble app in India, and is now in Udaipur to attend her friend Isha Ambani's wedding.

Well, haters just gonna hate!
