5 scariest horror movies to look forward to in 2019

Horror movie fans like me are rubbing their hands in glee as the genre is going through a healthy revival.

2018 was a great year for horror, be it through commercial successes like The Nun, masterful remakes like Suspiria or independent films like Hereditary.

Now with the year almost ending, 2019 promises to terrify us.

Here are 2019's 5 most anticipated horror films.

Us: Jordan Peele returns with great promises

Get Out established Jordan Peele as a thinking director who could effortlessly entwine horror with socially relevant issues like racism.

Now, he has teased his next project Us, releasing on March 15.

While almost no details are known, it promises to be thought-provoking and will center around a black and white couple.

Starring Lupita Nyong'o, Winston Duke, Us promises to be another Peele classic.

The Curse of La Llorona

James Wan of 'Saw' fame producing a new horror movie

Aquaman director James Wan is a key figure in modern horror, having helped create some of the biggest franchises like Saw, Insidious and The Conjuring.

Now, he's producing a movie titled The Curse of La Llorona with Michael Chaves as director.

The film centers around a social worker who finds her kids targeted by a ghost from Mexican folklore.

The film releases on April 15.

Cult classic

Pet Sematary: A classic Stephen King story gets a remake

Stephen King's harrowing story, Pet Sematary, was first made into a film in 1989, and became a cult horror classic.

April 4, will see a remake exploring the story of the Creed family, discovering the history of 'Pet Sematary' where local kids bury dead pets.

When the Creed's family cat dies, dark forces reveal themselves, and we hope the remake captures King's true horror.

Annabelle 3

Annabelle: Our favorite scary doll returns

Annabelle marked the beginning of the scary doll spin-off to the Conjuring franchise.

Honestly, the spin-off series is doing better than the original.

Now, Annabelle 3 is releasing on July 3, helmed by Gary Dauberman in his directorial debut. Notably, Dauberman wrote the script for It and Annabelle.

The film will explore how the doll activates other spooky items owned by paranormal investigators.

Sept 6 release

It: Chapter 2, anticipated sequel to 2017's best horror movie

When It released, we experienced one of the greatest horror films of all time, due to the masterful crafting of the film, its main antagonist Pennywise, and scares.

September 6, brings It: Chapter 2, where the band of kids, now adults, returns to battle evil Pennywise again.

Starring James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain, and Bill Skarsgård as Pennywise, this is 2019's most anticipated horror film.

I would keep my eye on The New Mutants which was supposed to be released this year but got delayed. It is a perfect balance between superheroes and horror, but expect some spooky scares as the first trailer showed us.

It is not exactly a remake, but there was a 1990s miniseries based on the story. Pet Sematary is a remake from a film.
