2019 is already shaping up to be a huge year for HBO. Their latest video offered a first look into new shows coming to the channel.

While popular shows like Game of Thrones and True Detective are returning, we are also excited about the upcoming Watchmen show.

The video gave a peek at some of the characters.

Teaser details

Small clipping packed with goodness for 'Watchmen' fans

The clipping only showed a couple of scenes from the upcoming show but fans will be excited to see Irons as Adrian Veidt or Ozymandias, the smartest superhero turned mass murderer.

Another unmistakable part is the mask of Rorschach, the vigilante killer of the Watchmen.

Veidt seems to say Johnny has just begun in the trailer, probably referring to John Osterman, aka Doctor Manhattan.

'Watchmen' to be directed by Damon Lindelof of 'Lost' fame

Watchmen is being made by Damon Lindelof, who made the acclaimed show Lost.

It stars Regina King, known for The Leftovers, Jeremy Irons who appeared in The Borgias and Jean Smart from Legion.

It promises to embrace the philosophy of Alan Moore's comic 'Who watches the Watchmen?', on which it is based.

Notably, this was inspired from a Latin phrase, 'Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?'

Recurring masks in Watchmen explore danger of anonymity

Apart from fan-favorite characters, we are introduced to new characters, one clad in a golden mask and the other in a red one.

We also see Tulsa police officers wearing yellow masks.

The recurring masks in Watchmen will explore the danger of anonymity, and the theme of identity.

Lindelof spoke about Watchmen, saying just because heroes wore masks did not make them trustworthy.

'If you hide your face, you're up to no good'

Lindelof said, "What we think about superheroes is wrong... I grew up on these characters...But we should not trust people who put on masks and say that they are looking out for us. If you hide your face, you are up to no good".

A homage to 'Watchmen', not a remake, says Lindelof

Lindelof has asserted that the events of the show will be set in the Watchmen universe and will honor it, but it will not be a remake.

While the graphic novel was set in and published in the 1980s, during the Cold War panic, the show will be set several decades later.

Nonetheless, Watchmen will have some pretty big shoes to fill, upon release.
