The television actress joined Congress yesterday in the presence of Mumbai Congress Chief Sanjay Nirupam.

While her political debut surprised everyone, Shilpa is excited about her new journey.

She said that she took the decision to "do something for the people."

When asked why she took the decision to join politics, Shilpa said that she did it to serve people. "I've taken a stand for me and succeeded in doing it every time. Now, I want to come ahead and help other people," she stated.

The Bigg Boss 11 winner feels that it's only Congress that can bring the much-required change in the country.

"Congress had run the country for ages. This is why I decided to join it. Today, the country is in dire need of a change and only Congress can bring about this change," she said.
