Netflix ends partnership with Marvel, cancels 'Jessica Jones', 'The Punisher'

Netflix seems to have come to the end of the line as far as their Marvel content is concerned.

The streaming giant has made the inevitable and long dreaded move of announcing the cancellation of the two remaining Marvel shows on their platform, Jessica Jones and The Punisher.

Here's all about the news of the end of the partnership between Netflix and Marvel TV.

In context

'The Punisher', 'Jessica Jones' canceled by Netflix

Swan Song

'Jessica Jones' will air the third and final season

The third season of Jessica Jones which has already wrapped up the production process is still going to air on Netflix, although no date has been set for it yet.

However, it was pretty evident that Season 3 would be the show's swan song, as Melissa Rosenberg, the showrunner and creator, left soon after it wrapped up and no new showrunner has been named.

Netflix releases an official statement after canceling 'Jessica Jones'

Netflix canceled Jessica Jones, saying, "We are grateful to showrunner Melissa Rosenberg, star Krysten Ritter and the entire cast and crew for three incredible seasons of this groundbreaking series, which was recognized by the Peabody Awards among many others."

"We are grateful to Marvel for five years of our fruitful partnership and thank the passionate fans who have followed these series from the beginning."

Netflix also canceled 'The Punisher' and released a statement

Netflix released a statement on Monday, February 18, speaking about the cancellation of The Punisher, "Marvel's The Punisher will not return for a third season on Netflix."

"Showrunner Steve Lightfoot, the terrific crew, and exceptional cast including star Jon Bernthal, delivered an acclaimed and compelling series for fans, and we are proud to showcase their work on Netflix for years to come."

Show cancellations, Disney+ and the future of Marvel TV

The Punisher and Jessica Jones follow the cancellations of other Netflix Marvel content including The Defenders, Daredevil, Luke Cage and Iron Fist.

With Disney starting their own streaming platform, Disney+, they are attempting to bring all Marvel content under one umbrella.

Therefore, despite these shows getting canceled, fans need not worry, since we will most likely see them continue on Disney+ when it releases.
