Since then, speculations are rife about its female lead.
Several names like Pooja Hegde, Katrina Kaif, etc. were doing the rounds for the role.
However, as per recent media reports, Rohit has roped in actress Jacqueline Fernandez for the lead role opposite Akshay.
Reportedly, Jacqueline was looking forward to working with one of the "superstars" and kept her dates free for it.
In fact, she also walked out of the remake of The Girl On The Train for the same.
"Jacqueline had a meeting with the team of Sooryavanshi on Friday and it has been verbally confirmed that she will be on board," a source stated.
Although official confirmation is still awaited, but if the reports turn out to be true, it will be Jacqueline's third collaboration with Akshay.
The two have earlier worked together in movies like Housefull 2 and Brothers.
Needless to say, Akshay and Jacqueline make a sizzling pair together and it will be interesting to watch them romance each other in Shetty's upcoming cop drama.
Interestingly, this will also be the first time that Shetty would collaborate with Akshay, who will be seen in the role of a rebellious ATS officer.
The film will also have cameos by Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh.
"Ranveer-Ajay will be making an appearance and it will not be surprising if they reprise their respective roles from Simmba and Singham," a source reportedly stated.
Currently, Akshay is gearing up for the release of Kesari opposite Parineeti Chopra, which is based on the 'Battle of Saragarhi'. The movie will release on March 21. Besides, he is also shooting for two of his upcoming movies: Mission Mangal and Good News.
