For months, there were reports about Shah Rukh Khan preparing for the third installment of Don, titled Don: The Final Chapter.
His fans were certainly ecstatic to watch SRK as Don again.
However, a recent update about the movie has come to the fore that will leave them heartbroken.
Reportedly, SRK has exited the popular franchise and has been replaced by Ranveer Singh.
According to a report published in Pinkvilla, the big development came after Shah Rukh left the project abruptly citing personal reasons.
His decision did leave producer Zoya Akhtar in a fix, who decided to rope in her new favorite, Ranveer for the role.
Reportedly, Zoya was impressed with Ranveer's performance in her directorial Gully Boy and decided to work with him again.
"Khan opted out of Don 3 for personal reasons and the Zoya Akhtar production franchise is still in the works. We hear she has approached her favorite actor Ranveer Singh for Khan's spot and the two are still in talks," a source was quoted saying.
Notably, Don: The Final Chapter, as the name suggests, will mark the end of the popular franchise.
The first film, a remake of Amitabh Bachchan's 1978 blockbuster Don, was made in 2006 with SRK in lead.
The 2006 flick was followed by a sequel in 2011.
To end the series in style, the makers were also apparently planning a grand climax for the film.
Talking about the movie, a source said, "This movie will be full of action and trickery. But it all ends! And they've come up with a great climax that will have everyone stunned."
The makers had also apparently locked a script and the movie was to hit the floors by mid-2019.
But, with such a major change in cast, will Don 3 be delayed?
The reports further suggested that after Shah Rukh's exit from Don 3, the makers are also considering to replace Priyanka Chopra as the female lead.
So, if Ranveer is roped in for Don 3, Zoya will take Katrina Kaif as the new female lead, the reports said.
Notably, Priyanka was Roma in the Don franchise, which was played by Zeenat Aman in the original.
