Deepika Padukone is all set to essay Kapil Dev's wife Romi in Ranveer Singh-starrer '83, to be directed by Kabir Khan.
Talking about her character, the Padmaavat actress stated that this will be a much lighter role emotionally, as compared to her previous ones.
However, "there are extreme highs and lows that Romi also goes through," as the movie unfolds, Deepika emphasizes.
"I've always enjoyed playing characters that take a lot out of me, emotionally. Even in '83, there are extreme highs and lows that Romi goes through in the journey towards Indian cricket team creating history by winning the world cup," Deepika was quoted as saying.
The 33-year-old further revealed that '83 will have also have some light moments between Romi and Kapil (played by Ranveer).
"So, in that sense, you can say that it has been a lighter part emotionally," Deepika added.
Interestingly, this will be her first movie with Ranveer post their marriage.
They have earlier worked in Bajirao Mastani, Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela and Padmaavat together.
"I've always believed that a character never really leaves your system entirely. I took cleaning and organizing things around my home to help me cope with switching from Laxmi to Romi Dev," she highlighted.
Talking about her preparation for '83, Deepika said that "there isn't a lot of material available" about Romi, but she has "interacted with her socially over the years."
"I've met her a few times, including our wedding reception, and I've interacted with her socially over the years. My parents have known their family for many years. So, I feel I know her," she said.
"I hope that she's proud and happy with the film. I intend to connect and spend some time with her before I start filming to be able to understand her perspective better. I'm also referring to whatever material the director's team has sent," Deepika said.
