Robot Sophia to feature in a film with 'Westworld' star

It is highly unlikely that you haven't seen or heard of Sophia, the robot, till now.
Since coming online on February 14, 2016, the humanoid has become a cultural phenomenon.
And now it seems Sophia, designed by the AI robotics company Hanson Robotics, is all set to become an actor.
Sophia will soon be seen in a short-film alongside Evan Rachel Wood.
Teaser features Evan Rachel Wood's 'Westworld' character, Dolores Abernathy
Sophia shared the teaser of her upcoming short, Sophiaworld.
The teaser opens with a shot of Wood as a voice says, "Bring her back online."
"Can you hear me?" the voice asks as the screen cuts to a Westworld logo.
Non-Westworld viewers might find the teaser weird, but fans would immediately recognize that Wood is reprising the role of Dolores Abernathy from the show.

Here is what 'Sophiaworld' is all about
The Internet Movie Database (IMDb) details the synopsis for Sophiaworld: "Television's most famous Robot, actress Evan Rachel Wood, and arguably the world's most famous real-life humanoid, Sophia the Robot, have a chance encounter in a swanky NY hotel bar. But this coincidental meeting is far more than it seems."
Described as a 7-min-long comedy, Sophiaworld will be released on September 4th on Futurism.com.
Director lauds Wood for "flawlessly" acting opposite a robot
Speaking about the making of the short film, Sophiaworld director and writer Geoffrey James Clark told Just Jared, "Directing a film starring a real robot has its challenges, but luckily I was able to have someone as incredibly talented as Evan who could convincingly pull off acting opposite a robot. It wasn't easy, but she did it flawlessly."
Luke Kingma co-wrote the film.
Haven't heard about 'Westworld'? Here's what it is
Westworld is an American science-fiction TV show set in a Wild-West-themed amusement park called 'Westworld', which is populated by human-like androids called "hosts".
The show is based on the 1973 eponymous film and its 1976 sequel Futureworld.
Westworld also stars Thandie Newton, Jeffrey Wright, Tessa Thompson, Luke Hemsworth, James Marsden, among others.
The show will return for its third season next year.

Sophia, who can display approximately 50 facial expressions, might be living proof of how far AI has come, but she truly attained global fame when she jokingly revealed her plans to "destroy all humans."
Ever since, Sophia has become quite the celebrity, who even went out on a "date" with Hollywood star Will Smith.
In 2017, the robot was granted Saudi Arabian citizenship.
