Fans of Varun Dhawan, who have been impatiently waiting for his next film, will have to wait a tad longer.
Varun-starrer Coolie No. 1 is set to be postponed, according to reports.
The comedy movie, which was earlier planned to be released on May 1, joins a long list of flicks which got delayed due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Here are more details.
The film, also featuring Sara Ali Khan, is "definitely not arriving on May 1," a source told Mumbai Mirror.
The release might be shifted to June/July or even later, depending on how the coronavirus situation unfolds, the source added.
They further informed the publication that producers of all major films will collectively plan a release calendar for second half of 2020, to avoid clashes.
Coolie No. 1 marks the third collaboration between Varun and his filmmaker father David Dhawan.
It is an official remake of the 1995 hit comedy movie by the same name.
The original movie, which starred Govinda and Karisma Kapoor in lead roles, became a rage among the audience, thanks to Govinda's onscreen antics and catchy songs like Main To Raste Se Jaa Raha Tha.
The makers have tweaked the original screenplay and filled it with new twists to suit the contemporary audience.
In the upcoming movie, Varun will be essaying the role of a die-hard Mithun Chakraborty fan, and will be seen mimicking the veteran's speech and mannerisms.
Further, two songs: Main Toh Raste Se... and Husn Hai Suhana have been recreated for the rebooted movie.
On a related note, the coronavirus pandemic has brought the showbiz to a standstill.
Coolie No. 1 joins several other major movies that have been postponed due to the ongoing pandemic.
They include Akshay Kumar-starrer cop movie Sooryavanshi, Dibakar Banerjee's Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar, Rohena Gera's Sir, and Ranveer Singh's much-awaited sports movie 83, among others.
