Continuing its big push for Aadhaar, the Centre has now made the 12-digit unique identification number mandatory for all post office deposits, Public Provident Fund, National Savings Certificate, and Kisan Vikas Patra.
Existing depositors who haven't provided Aadhaar while opening the deposits can submit it to the concerned office by 31 Dec'17.
Those without Aadhaar can provide proof of Aadhaar enrolment application.
The Aadhaar deadline extension covers as many as 135 government schemes, including the provision of free LPG (cooking gas) to poor women, kerosene/fertilizer subsidy, targeted public distribution system (TPDS), and MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act).
It also applies for the 1995 Employees' Pension Scheme, housing subsidy benefit, scholarships, stipends to SC/ST coaching-guidance/vocational trainees and handicapped, and Aam Aadmi Bima Yojana.
Extension also applicable for skill development schemes
The Aadhaar deadline extension also applies for national apprenticeship and skill development schemes, scholarship and fellowship schemes, other education programmes, mid-day meal schemes, Atal Pension Yojana, interest subvention scheme, and also crop insurance schemes.
