India prepared for war at short notice: Air Force chief

On Air Force Day, Air Chief Marshall BS Dhanoa said India is prepared to fight a war at short notice and can face any security challenge.

After the Pathankot attack, security at all air force stations has been enhanced, he added.

The IAF is also engaged in acquiring multi-spectrum strategic capabilities. The goal is to build a "joint manship" with the army and navy.

Seven personnel killed in deadly Pathankot air base attack

On January 2, 2016, the Pathankot Air Force base was attacked by a group of six terrorists who entered posing as security personnel. The three-day assault resulted in the death of seven security personnel and all six terrorists. India blamed Pakistan-based terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad.

Meanwhile, the IAF celebrated the 85th Air Force Day at Ghaziabad's Hindon Air Force base in UP. Several events including colorful air display are planned.

President Ram Nath Kovind and PM Narendra Modi extended their wishes.

"I salute the valour, commitment and dedication of our brave air warriors," Kovind tweeted. Modi said, "(Air warriors') determination and prowess ensure that our skies are safe."
