The annual education allowance for differently-abled children of government employees has been hiked from Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 54,000.
Hostel allowance for children has also been increased to Rs. 6,750.
If both parents are government servants, only one can apply for reimbursement.
The new rules are in accordance with the provisions of the 7th Pay Commission.
Certificate from the institution will be necessary
Reimbursements will be released once annually, at the end of the financial year.
For reimbursement of the education allowance, employees need to provide a certificate from the head of the institution confirming the child studied there that year.
The requirement is similar for hostel subsidy: a certificate from the head of the institution mentioning the expenditure incurred by the parents towards lodging.
What were the allowances under the previous Pay Commission?
The 6th Pay Commission had fixed children's education allowance at Rs. 1,500 monthly, Rs. 3,000 for the differently-abled. Hostel subsidy was earlier Rs. 4,500 per month. The allowance will be hiked by 25% every time dearness allowance on revised pay structure goes up by 50%.
