The Jharkhand school principal who was arrested on Sunday for molesting a seven-year-old girl student has admitted to the crime, saying it was "a small mistake" since there was "no intercourse involved".

According to NDTV, the incident occurred on November 29 at a school in Jharkhand's Koderma district. The girl's parents lodged a police complaint on December 1 after she informed them.

What happened?

S Xavier, the accused headmaster, had allegedly taken the girl, a student of upper KG, to a school toilet, stripped her and inappropriately touched her. When she started crying, he reportedly gave her some money and threatened her to not tell anyone about the incident.

Calling it an accident, Xavier said, "It wasn't such a big mistake. There was no sexual intercourse."

He added that he couldn't have done it even if wanted to since he was old. He claimed to be stressed. "My work is not going well. I have heart trouble. I can't sleep at night sometimes," Xavier said. He's been sent to jail for 15 days.

The incident comes shortly after two PT teachers of Kolkata's GD Birla Education Centre were arrested on December 1 for sexually assaulting a four-year-old nursery student in the school's toilet.

In another incident on November 23, three teachers of a girl's school in Arunachal Pradesh reportedly forced 88 students from Classes 6 and 7 to undress as punishment for writing vulgar things about principal.
