BSF kills intruder, destroys Pakistani mortar positions

A day after a BSF jawan was killed in Pakistani firing in J&K's Samba, Indian forces destroyed two mortar positions across the border and killed an intruder in RS Pura area.

Pakistan started unprovoked firing with small arms but later launched mortar shellings. In response, India targeted two Pakistani mortar positions.

"Pakistan's infrastructure, solar panel and weapons were damaged," officials said.

One intruder killed in Jammu, hunt on for others

Meanwhile, alert BSF personnel detected suspicious movement of two-three people near the Nikowal border outpost early this morning.

When they tried to escape, personnel opened fire. One was successfully neutralized.

Despite the dense fog, they managed to recover the intruder's body, sources said.

For now, the area has been cordoned off. Forces will launch search operations to nab the others.

Yesterday, a BSF jawan was killed on his birthday

This comes a day after BSF's RP Hazra was killed by a Pakistani sniper. 51-year-old Hazra, posted with the 173rd battalion, was deployed at the Chak Dulma post in Samba, when he was hit by a sniper bullet around 4.15pm. It was his birthday yesterday.

Tensions high over Jadhav case, cross-border attacks

Last year, Pakistan violated ceasefire along the LoC 882 times in J&K. Thirty people, including 14 army personnel, four BSF jawans and 12 civilians, were killed.

Days ago, the Indian Army carried out cross-border raids in Pooch, killing three Pakistani soldiers. Two days before that, four soldiers had been killed in Pakistani firing.

Bilateral tensions are anyway high over the ongoing Kulbhushan Jadhav case.
