German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron were ranked first and second, respectively.
How did Modi fare in Gallup International Survey?
What is the Gallup International Survey?
Gallup International conducted the survey in 55 countries. About 55,000 persons were interviewed globally. In each country, about 1,000 people were interviewed either face-to-face, via telephone or online from October- December 2017. Seventy-year old Gallup International is a market research organization.
What is the significance of this ranking?
Since becoming PM, Modi has been globe-trotting, selling India's potential throughout the world. He has often broken practices/protocols while meeting foreign heads of states, even extending his friendship. His efforts may have borne fruit.
Interestingly, Modi is extremely popular in South Asia, with Afghanistan's and Bangladesh's population quite fond of him.
Further, this ranking supports BJP's projection of Modi being an international diplomacy czar.
