NIA calls officers death a 'planned attack'

NIA officer killed in UP

The National Investigation Agency has termed the killing of NIA officer Mohammad Tanzil Ahmad a "planned attack" and stated that investigations are underway.

Officer Tanzil's wife, who was also injured in the attack is in hospital in critical condition.

NIA IG Sanjeev Kumar said teams of UP Police, UP ATS, NIA and the DIG of NIA were overseeing investigations into the attack.

The NIA Act was enacted on 31 February 2008 and led to the formation of the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

At present NIA functions as the Central Counter Terrorism Law Enforcement Agency in India and has officers from all services of law enforcement under deputation to them.

Currently, there are 122 cases under investigation under the NIA police stations in Hyderabad, Guwahati and Delhi.

Officer Mohammed Tanzil, posted with the NIA was shot dead while his wife was seriously injured by unidentified bike-borne assailants in Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh.

The incident took place at 12:45 am when Ahmed, an assistant commandant with BSF on deputation to the NIA, was returning from his niece's wedding in Bijnor.

Officials have yet to ascertain the identity and whereabouts of the assailats.

Could be related to the Bijnor IED blast?

On 12 September 2014, at about 11:20 am, an IED exploded in a house in Bijnor. Officials clarified that Officer Tanzil was not part of the Pathankot probe, but refused to comment on whether he was investigating the Bijnor blast.

Mohd Tanzil's brother, Raghib Ahmed, said the officer was shot at 21 times and his wife sustained four bullet injuries, adding "he had no enmity against anyone, he was a friendly cheerful person."

Suspects in NIA officer's killing identified through CCTV

Uttar Pradesh Police scanned the CCTV footage from the wedding that was attended by Tanzil Ahmed and his family and identified two youth who they suspect to be responsible for his murder.

Guests at the wedding were unable to indentify the two when authorities showed them their pictures.

Police have not ruled out personal rivalry or property disputes as possible motives for the crime.

2 detained by UP police in NIA officer murder-case

2 men, including a sharpshooter, were detained by the police in connection with the killing of the National Investigation Agency officer Mohammed Tanzil Ahmed in UP.

The police said the men were being questioned.

The motorbike used by the attackers to chase the officer's car was found too.

The police alleged that the killing seemed to have a 'personal reason' behind it.

UP police nabs NIA officer's relative for his murder

The UP police revealed that the NIA officer was killed by his own relative Rehan Mohammad.

Mohammad had confessed his crime and said that he had killed Tanzil Ahmed "for bullying and humiliating his family".

Further, it was brought to the police's notice that it was Mohammad who had been riding the bike while his accomplice Munir had shot at the officer.

NIA officer's murder: Rs.50,000 reward for suspect's information

The Uttar Pradesh police has announced a reward for information leading to the arrest of the main suspect in the murder of the NIA Officer Tanzil Ahmed.

Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Daljeet Singh Chaudhary stated that "Police has announced a reward of Rs.50,000 on the main accused Muneer."

Police are also investigating if Muneer was involved in other crimes.

UP Police: NIA officer murder solved, 2 arrested

The Uttar Pradesh police arrested two persons it claimed were among the three accused in the murder of NIA officer Tanzil Ahmed.

Mohammad Rehan and Mohammad Jaini were arrested by police while the alleged mastermind of the crime, Muneer, is still on the run.

According to UP police, the murder was committed because of domestic disputes, family matters and share in a property deal.

Main accused in NIA murder case apprehended

The main accused in the murder of UP NIA officer Tanzeel Ahmed has been apprehended in Noida.

The accused, identified as Muneer was arrested along with two of his associates. Police also recovered a revolver from him.

The UP Police, NIA and a Special Task Force that was set up to investigate the murder are reported to be conducting a joint interrogation of Muneer.
