Delhi: Raped-teen's parents 'settle' case for Rs.5L, girl reaches cops

In some rape cases, the nation speaks out for the victim. Other victims have to fight even their parents.

A 15-year-old Delhi girl was gang-raped repeatedly last year. She lodged a police complaint later.

Shockingly, her parents started threatening her to change her statement, even thrashing her; the rapists had paid them Rs. 5L.

But she didn't give up and turned her parents in.

The resident of Prem Nagar, Aman Vihar, went missing on August 30 last year.

She returned a week later and narrated her ordeal: two men, including a local property dealer, had kidnapped her, taken her to various places including Noida and Ghaziabad, and repeatedly gang-raped her before letting her go.

Afterwards, she lodged a police complaint. The two men were arrested.

The men approached her parents after being released on bail

The men recently got bail and were released. They approached her parents and offered Rs. 20L to convince her to change her statement.

The poor family, which owns a small business in the locality, agreed. They demanded an advance payment.

They then gave them a bag of cash, which carried nearly Rs. 5L.

According to some reports, the girl had heard the entire conversation.

"The next morning they thrashed me and blackmailed me, saying they were poor and needed the money," she said in her police complaint.

Then she approached police.

Mother arrested, father on the run, girl in children's home

Police booked the parents for criminal intimidation, threatening someone to give false evidence and conspiracy.

They nabbed the mother when she returned home later, unaware that her daughter had informed police.

On hearing of his wife's arrest, the father fled. A manhunt is on.

The girl has meanwhile been handed over to the Child Welfare Committee; she is now in a children's home.
