Gangrapes trigger protests in Bihar

The East Champaran district of Bihar witnessed two rape incidents in the last week causing public outrages and protests.

A 12-year old and a 17-year old girl were both gangraped in the state.

On 23rd June, 2016, National Highway 28 was blocked by local protests calling for a speedy trial of the cases.

Demonstrators also burned tyres and demanded "exemplary punishment" for the accused.

15 Jun 201612-year old raped by two men

In Bedivan Madhuvan village, a 12-year old girl was raped by two people.

The incident occurred when the girl went to collect mangoes from an orchard.

First admitted in a government hospital in Motihar, she was later shifted to Patna Medical College and Hospital due to her critical condition.

Mundrika Prasad, Deputy Superintendent of Police, said, "Two accused have been arrested, we will ensure speedy trial in the case".

12-year olds family pressurised

The 12-year old victim's brother in a statement said that there was immense pressure on his family to withdraw the case. "We are poor people. They say that if we don't withdraw the case, they will shoot us", he said.

17-year old woman gangraped

A 17-year old woman in the Motihari district of Bihar was gangraped by 5 men on gunpoint.

The accused reportedly left her on the roadside on the assumption that she was dead.

Foreign objects were inserted in her genitalia and when she was discovered, few body parts were found mutilated.

The accused, namely Safiullah, Aliullah, Javiullah, Kalimullah and Nurullah are currently on the run.

17-year old victim was assaulted before

Reports state that Safiullah had raped the girl on 13th June, 2016, too. Filming the act, he used the video clip as a means of blackmailing the victim. The victim responded to his blackmails by attacking him with a blade, which led to this incident.

25 Jun 2016Police nab suspect in Motihari rape case

Police have arrested Safiullah, one of the prime suspects in the rape of a minor girl in Motihari district.

He was arrested by police in Motihari district itself.

However the others accused in the case are still on the run.

Police have expressed confidence that all the accused would be nabbed after interrogating Safiullah and that they would be put on trial soon.
