AAP MLA Naresh Yadav was taken in for questioning by the Punjab police in connection with the recent Quran desecration case. An accused in the case claimed that he had desecrated the Quran at the behest of Yadav and was offered Rs.1 crore. The police already arrested 3 men - Vijay Kumar, Nand Kishore and Gaurav, who have confessed to the crime. Malerkotla, Punjab's only Muslim-majority town, witnessed severe violence and arson after pages of the Quran were found dumped near a drain. The incident happened after prayers during the holy month of Ramadan, and a mob attacked and set Akali Dal MLA Farzana Alam's home on fire. 300-400 protesters indulged in stone pelting and set vehicles on fire. Naresh Yadav is a member of the Sixth Legislative Assembly of Delhi in India and represents the Mehrauli constituency of New Delhi as a member of the Aam Aadmi Party. The BJP demanded action against AAP MLA Naresh Yadav for allegedly desecrating the Quran. BJP members said, ''the incident exposed the real face of the AAP party regarding conspiracies and spreading hatred for electoral benefits.'' BJP leader Satish Upadhyay said that, Till now AAP MLAs were getting booked for corruption, violence and their wrong behaviour but this new case is a very serious case. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal claimed the SAD-BJP alliance falsely incriminated MLA Naresh Yadav for desecration of the Quran in Malerkotla last month. Kejriwal said that, Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy CM Sukhbir Badal were resorting to cheap conspiracies to disturb his three-day election tour of Punjab. He also requested the Punjab police to stop listening to the Badals. Congress leader P.C. Chacko said that, ''when an AAP MLA is caught either for corruption or for indecent behavior in public, they always dub it as political vendetta.'' Police have said that the main accused in the Quran desecration case was in constant touch with AAP MLA Naresh Yadav by phone as well as SMS. He added that Yadav's promises to pay huge sums of money and possibly an AAP ticket for the upcoming elections were incentives for him to do the crime. However, no official action has been initiated on Yadav. AAP MLA Naresh Yadav was grilled for over 5 hours by police officials in Patiala over the Quran desecration case. Sangrur SP Pritpal Singh stated that he had not answered all the questions posed to him and he may be called in for questioning again. However, officials added that the MLA admitted to have met the prime accused on the day of the incident. AAP MLA Naresh Yadav has been arrested by the Punjab police in Delhi, over the desecration of the Quran. Punjab Police IG Paramraj Singh said a warrant was issued for Yadav's arrest by the Malerkotla Court and that he would be produced before it. He was booked under several sections of the IPC including Section 109, Section 153A and Section 295.
