IIPM treads on thin ice

IIPM will close down all its campuses in October 2015, after the current batches finish their courses. All 18 campuses which were operating on rented premises will be closed.

It will now focus on providing education via partner institutes; the institutes will confer the degrees.

IIPM instructors will go to these institutes but teach as external instructors. IIPM will not directly give any certificates.

In context: IIPM treads on thin ice

1973IIPM starts out on its educational journey

The Indian Institute of Planning and Management (IIPM) was founded in 1973 by M.K. Chaudhuri.

It started with offering undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral degrees in national economic planning and entrepreneurship and a number of international fellowship programs.

IIPM however, was not accredited by University Grants Commission (UGC) or All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

It has 18 campuses in total.

19 Feb 2013The blame game between IIPM and UGC

In June 2008, UGC and IIPM had reached an agreement in the Delhi High Court whereby UGC would remove IIPM's name from its list of fake universities and IIPM agreed to mention that it offers only "certificate courses".

In 2013, UGC warned the students to steer clear of IIPM's fraudulent claims.

Arindam Chaudhuri claimed that the UGC and AICTE's standard of education was 'shameful'.

Delhi Court barred IIPM from doling out MBA and BBA degrees to students and had also taken away the title of 'B-School' from the institution.

A fine of Rs 25,000 had also been levied for claiming to be a B-School.

The judgement also ruled that from now on, its official website must carry a disclaimer saying it was not UGC or AICTE accredited.

Volley of defamation cases by IIPM

IIPM has sued Google, Careers360, JAM, Caravan and Penguin for their ‘defamation’ articles on IIPM.

12 May 2015IIPM 2.0 launched

7 months after IIPM faced the music from the Delhi HC, it was back with its IIPM 2.0 set to churn out entrepreneurs.

An initiative of Planman Consulting, the plan was to provide a 3 month"Global Exposure Certification Programme" which would cost Rs. 8-8.5 lakh.

The website also stated (in very fine print) that the courses offered are neither recognised by UGC or AICTE.

13 May 2015IIPM founder under the scanner again!

Arindam Chaudhuri, the founder of Indian Institute of Planning and Management, was accused of "fooling" the students by the UGC.

The Delhi Police registered an FIR against him and his father Malayendra Kisor Chaudhuri, who is the Director, acting on UGC's complaint .

On his part, Chaudhuri blamed the UGC and AICTE for making him a soft target and being corrupt.
