BJP plans Tiranga Yatra in anticipation of 70th Independence Day

The Bharatiya Janata Party has decided to carry out a week long Tiranga Yatra from 15th August, 2016 to 22nd August, 2016 in a grand celebration of the 70th Independence Day.

As a part of the yatra, MPs are expected to travel on two-wheelers across their respective constituencies.

The aim is to highlight the party's pro-poor and nationalistic agenda.

On the eve of every Independence Day, an "Address to the Nation" is delivered by the country's President.

On 15th August, the Prime Minister hoists the Indian Flag at Red Fort, Delhi and delivers a speech, highlighting past year's achievements, raising important issues and calling for further development.

21 gun shots are fired and a march past of the Indian Armed Forces takes place.

On 15th August, 2016, the 70th anniversary of India's independence, the MPs and MLAs from BJP, office bearers and active members will celebrate the Independence day in a grand manner, paying tribute to freedom fighters and also connecting with the locals of the region.

A BJP MP, referring to Prime Minister Modi, said, "He said MPs and MLAs should set out on bikes carrying the Tricolour, which should be at least 8 feet high, so that it evokes feelings of patriotism and nationalism among people, especially the youth."

Plans for the Independence Day celebrations were unveiled by the Prime Minister in the Parliamentary meeting held on 19th July, 2016.

According to Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar, Modi mentioned how the last two Parliamentary sessions witnessed increasing debate and execution of work and urged members to read up on upcoming issues.

He also encouraged members to raise levels of public discourse.

Planning of the Independence Day Event

The details of the Independence Day event are being worked out by a committee led by Urban Development and Information and Broadcasting Minister, M Venkaiah Naidu in consultation with party President Amit Shah.
