An employee of Odisha Electrical Department has said he will commit suicide as he is unable to withdraw money from the Employee Provident Fund due to an error in his Aadhaar card.
The man, identified as Santosh Jena, said there is a discrepancy in his date of birth mentioned in the birth certificate and the Aadhaar card, due to which he is facing issues.
Jena wants to withdraw money for daughter's wedding, son's education
For the last 30 years, Jena has been employed at General Electrical Department in Baripada division of Mayurbhanj district.
In dire need of money for his daughter's wedding and son's education, Jena wanted to withdraw the EPF amount.
"Due to wrong entry in the Aadhaar Card, I am unable to withdraw the deposited amount from my account," he said.
I need help else will commit suicide, says Jena
"My family is suffering from the past one year because of lack of money. I now want to appeal to the government as well as the district administration of Mayurbhanj to help me, otherwise, I will be forced to commit suicide," Jena added.
Details in Aadhaar can be rectified by visiting Regional Office
Notably, incorrect details in Aadhaar can be rectified at UIDAI's regional office. But Jena's case is an example of information not reaching rural areas.
Weighing in on the issue, Human Right Advocate, Satyabrata Mohanty, said it was unfortunate government was 'forcing' Aadhaar, when many people in rural areas don't have correct details in the identification card.
He said even people in urban areas faced this.
Last month, Supreme Court delivered important judgment on Aadhaar
In September, a Supreme Court bench upheld the constitutional validity of Aadhaar but struck down some provisions relating to authentication of the program, and the Section 57 of Aadhaar Act.
