Delhi: Sanitation worker dies while cleaning sewer; four questioned

Four men are being questioned in connection with the death of a 32-year-old laborer while cleaning a sewer in Northwest Delhi's Jahangirpuri, police said Monday.

The deceased, identified as Dooman Ray, died Sunday because of suffocation while cleaning a Delhi Jal Board (DJB) sewer.

The police have not made any arrests so far and are interrogating the four men.

Interrogation

Men questioned include Project Manager and Supervisor of contract firm

Police are questioning the Project Manager and Supervisor of a firm that had been given the contract for the maintenance of the sewer by the Delhi Jal Board.

Apart from that, they are questioning two persons, who had accompanied the victim while he was cleaning the sewer.

Police are still probing whether the victim had any safety gear with him when he went inside.
