Important changes being made by CBSE for Classes 10, 12
The 2018-19 CBSE board examinations for Classes 10 and 12 are going to be held from mid-February this year.
The CBSE is, however, making several changes in the exam pattern and education system for Class 10 and Class 12.
From early conduction of board exams to release of exam results to exam pattern changes, here are some important changes being made by the CBSE.
Early board exam conduction and release of results
This year, CBSE is going to conduct board exams early for Classes 10 and 12 from mid-February; vocational courses in February and core subjects in March. Earlier, the exams usually began from 1 March.
CBSE aims to complete the board exam process in time and release the results early. The results are expected to be out by last week of April or early May.
Class 10, Class 12 students to have more internal choices
Also, in another significant change, the CBSE has revised the format of Class 10 and 12 question papers for the upcoming board exams in terms of internal choices provided to students.
As per the Class 10 and 12 sample papers released by the CBSE for 2019 board exams, the number of internal choice questions has been raised by 33% for almost all subjects.

Major changes in Class-12 English paper for 2019 board exams
CBSE is introducing changes for 2019 Class-12 English paper.
Section-A (Reading) will have two passages instead of three. One passage will have 5 MCQs, 9 very-short-answer-type questions, and 3 short-answer-type questions. The second passage will have two long-answer-type questions.
Section-A (for 30 marks) will now have 19 questions instead of 24. The number of questions in the paper was reduced to 35 from 40.
#4: Python language, C++ in Class 12 Computer Science paper
Also, CBSE is going to introduce Python language for Class-12 Computer Science examination in 2019. Students will have an option to answer questions either on C++ or Python. CBSE recently stated Python has been kept optional as some schools have a chapter on the language.
Question paper pattern to change from 2020
The CBSE is planning to modify the question paper pattern for Class 10 and Class 12 board exams from 2020 to test the analytical abilities of students while also reducing the scope of rote learning.
The questions will focus on the students' problem-solving and critical thinking abilities and will test the actual learning outcomes; the papers will have more short-answer type (1-5 marks) questions.
