Lucknow: Washerman's daughter scores 95% in CBSE Class XII Boards
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) declared its Class XII Board exam results yesterday.
While all students study hard for these momentous exams, Lucknow resident Nidhi Kannaujia had to put in a little extra effort and it paid off.
Despite the challenges of hailing from an economically and socially backward section, Nidhi performed exceptionally well and scored a stunning 95%.
Here's her story.
Nidhi's brilliant performance helped her get into a better school
A daughter of a washerman, Nidhi gained her early education at the Prerna Girls' School student, Hindustan Times reports.
In 2010, her exceptional scores caught the attention of Dr. Urvashi Sahni, President and CEO of Study Hall Educational Foundation, which aims to promote education among all strata of society.
Nidhi was transferred to attain a better education at the Study Hall School.
Nidhi's sisters dropped-out after Class 10 to get married
Although Nidhi has spent her entire life in Lucknow, her family belongs to Harakh, a small village near Barabanki.
Her father moved to Lucknow 20 years ago in hopes of better work opportunities.
Nidhi told HT that she realized the importance of education when she saw both of her sisters struggling, who were married after Class 10 and had to drop out of school.
Nidhi hopes to become an IAS officer, serve the nation
Nidhi had to make up for her lack of privilege with hard work and dedication.
Initially, she struggled to have moved from a Hindi-medium school to the Study Hall School, which has English as its medium of study.
According to HT, Nidhi now hopes to clear the UPSC examination and become an IAS officer so she could serve the nation.
Over 13 lakh students appeared for the exam this year
Reportedly, over 13 lakh students had appeared for the 2019 CBSE Class XII Board Examinations, which were held from February 15 to April 4.
Hansika Shukla, a student of DPS, Ghaziabad, and Karishma Arora, a student of SD Public School, Muzaffarnagar, topped the exams securing 499 marks out of 500.
Thiruvananthapuram was recorded as the best performing region with a pass percentage of 98.2%.
